1. Red Book reading group

2. Jung for Congregations.
I taught a workshop on the shadow in individual and congregational life at the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago's Convention in November 2011.
It's part of a series I've begun developing to apply Jung's thought to congregational life. Most religious professionals rely on systems thought -- primarily that of the late Rabbi Ed Friedman, who adapted Murray bowen's pioneering work -- to help understand their congregations and their role in it.
The work of Bowen and Friedman has been enormously helpful to many congregational leaders, but I'm also convinced that Jung's thought can be used in ways that will help us gain an even deeper understanding of congregational systems. 3. Pastoral Institute.
I had been hoping to launch this program -- aimed principally at lay and ordained congregational leaders -- in 2012. However, with my church celebrating its 150th anniversary in the Fall, it is clear to me I will not have time to organize this Iprogram in 2012.
I hope to offer it instead in 2013. What I envision is either a week-long intensive or perhaps a series of two or three-day gatherings held throughout the program year of 2013=14.
In either format, the goal will be to help those new to Jung, as well as those familiar with his work, to apply his insights for personal spiritual growth and also to help strengthen their pastoral skills.

The inner journey
Welcome. I am an analyst and psychotherapist with about 25 years of clinical exerience.
At present, I have a limited practice because I also am an Episcopal priest serving as rector of the Church of Our Saviour in Elmhurst, Illinois. (Although my practice is limited, it is not closed, so please contact me if you sense we might be a good fit. Things often have a way of working out if we are meant to work together.)
I do analytic and priestly work because my chief passion is transformation and in our time this has become an elusive goal. For me, it makes sense to seek it more than one venue and to use a variety of practices.
Much of my clinical work is either with clinicians or clergy. While I am grateful for the confidence of my peers and colleagues, I am also quite happy to see non-clinicians and non-clergy!
My training is deepest in Jungian analysis and in the Christian spiritual tradition, and these are the pillars of my work. As a Jungian analyst, I am most at home in the "classical" Jungian tradition.
By this I mean that, although my clinical skills are broad and not limited to one approach, Jung's view of the uniqueness of each person compels me much more than the "clinical" psychology of our time which is often pathology-oriented, "solution-focused," and insurance-"managed."
As a priest, it is Christianity's spiritual and ritual traditions which most inform my practice. I often work with people who still find Christianity or another established religion meaningful. But I am increasingly drawn to shamanic and other energy work, and work as well with many for whom institutional religion has lost transformative power.
