Background & training

Psychology & spirituality

As a Jungian analyst and Episcopal priest, Steve is particularly comfortable and knolwedgable working at the intersection of psychology and spirituality.

His work in the Chicago Jungian community includes:

  • teaching in the public programs at both the Jung Institute and Jung Center,
  • teaching in the Institute's Analyst Training Program,
  • and serving as co-director of its Clinical Training Program.

His analytic training was at the C.G. Jung Institute of Chicago, where he wrote his thesis on The Good Shepherd: Explorations of an Archetypal Image.

Other postgraduate clinical training has included certificate programs at the Center for Family Health and the Center for Religion and Psychotherapy.  He is an Illinois Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.

Steve earned his B.A. summa cum laude at the University of Maryland.  He later graduated with an M.Div. from Catholic Theological Union and a D.Min. in pastoral counseling from Chicago Theological Seminary.

At CTS, he wrote his professional paper on liturgy and ritual for people affected by AIDS.  That paper grew out of his work during the 1980s with the AIDS Pastoral Care Network, of which he was a principal founder.

Besides his analytic practice and its outgrowths, Steve pastors St. Nicholas  Church in Elk Grove Village.
